Congratulations, MIke Sustin of West Geauga High School!
On October 24, 2011, Mike Sustin will receive a Sylvan Eddy Award. He will receive a $100 award that will be used to purchase materials and supplies for Nature Clubs at West Geauga Schools.
Students at West Geauga High School have taken a leadership role within the school community and established 5th grade Nature Clubs in each of the district's two elementary schools. With Mr. Sustin's guidance, the students develop conservation education programs that support the science content standards being taught in the student's classes and offer them through and extracurricular club. The high school students deliver ecology, geology, biology and environmental science oriented lessions, combined with elements from language arts, fine arts, and social studies, twice a month throughout the school year. In addition to providing valuable supplemental science experiences to over forty 5th grade students, the high schoolers serve as role models and mentors.
