Barbara Schilling

Centre Director

My duties include setting up and maintaining individualized instruction programs. I am responsible for teacher training and scheduling. Also, I am part of our teaching staff.

I have been involved with Sylvan for nearly seven years. Sylvan has provided me with the opportunity to work closely with children and parents in this community, forming relationships and building into the future.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, including my five kids. I can often be found hiking with my three dogs or chatting with friends in local coffee shops.

Dallan

Teacher/Tutor

After finishing Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University, I quickly learned that my passion was in teaching. I have tutored in areas such as math, physics, chemistry, but also in reading and writing. I enjoy working with students from elementary up to high school, and find myself learning from them as much as they learn from me.

In my spare time I enjoy writing stories and drawing.

Doris

Teacher/Tutor

My teaching education began in Newfoundland and continued in California and British Columbia, where I received a BA from Simon Fraser University. Most of my teaching experience was in British Columbia where I taught grades two to six.

Teaching at Sylvan is very rewarding. I enjoy the challenge of getting to know the students and working with them on an individualized program. It is encouraging to see the progress they make over time.

The work also helps me stay up to date with new strategies and technologies.

George

Teacher/Tutor

I have enjoyed teaching at Maple Ridge Sylvan for over ten years. Our students, ranging in ages from preschool to adult, have been interesting and great to teach. Teaching only one to three students at a time makes it easy to get to know them and to determine where they need the most help. Our staff is easy-going and work well together. I think I can speak for all of us in saying that we get much satisfaction from watching our students build skills and gain confidence in learning. This is the best working environment I have ever experienced.

Lyla

Teacher/Tutor

Lyla has been working at Sylvan for about 10 years, and still enjoys it to this day. Combined with her positive attitude and contagious sense of humor, she enjoys the challenge of bringing her students from struggle to success. Overall, working with children is one of her great joys, and she has done so through her teaching career in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
