Meet the Tutors
The tutors of Merrimack Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Merrimack staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Merrimack Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Vanessa Bolieiro
Center Director
Vanessa has been a part of the Sylvan of Merrimack family since December of 2004. Her passion for education has taken her through a variety of roles over the years. She is also enthusiastic about Natural Health and received a Massage Therapist Certificate in 2008 from the New Hampshire Institute for Therapeutic Arts. Following gradutation, she became Nationally Board Certified and Licensed by the State of NH. She spent time working in a Chiropractic office. Vanessa became a mom on June 6, 2010 to a beautiful and happy girl. In her free time, she enjoys the beach, hiking, cooking, and spending time with friends & family!
Karen M.
Sylvan Instructor
Karen is a certified elementary teacher with experience teaching 3rd and 4th grade, as well as preschool and special education. She has attained a B.A. in psychology from UNH as well as an M.Ed from U-Mass Lowell. She is married, with three sons ranging from elementary to college. Karen has been working at Sylvan since 2005. In her free time, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, reading and working in the yard. Karen excels at relating to her students to help motivate them and build thier confidence!
Ellen W.
Sylvan Instructor
Ellen has a B.A. and M.S. in Elementary Education. Ellen taught for over 30 years and is currently retired as a classroom teacher. In addition to teaching in the classroom, Ellen worked as a FORD fellow in the leadership development program. Ellen has taught at Sylvan from 2000-2004 & 2008- current. Ellen is a proud mother of two grown sons. Her pride and joy is her 1 1/2 year old grandson! In her free time, Ellen enjoys reading, board games, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. Ellen teaches all of our programs, including SAT prep (verbal).
Jim Moff
Math Instructor
Jim has a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering. He has been a Sylvan instructor since January of 2011. Jim does an excellent job helping his students understand the "why" behind problem solving and not just "how". In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife, reading physics books and doing math! He is also passionate about philosophy.
Paula Langlais
Math Instructor
Paula has a B.A. in Psychology and History from the University of Maine. She taught 7-12th grade Math and Physics in a local private school for two years. She has been a Sylvan instructor since September of 2011. Paula is a very enthusiastic teacher, who enjoys building the skills AND confidence of each of her students. Paula has 2 children and is active in her church. We love Paula for her vigor and love for teaching Math!
Colleen Powers
Sylvan Instructor
Colleen from Northwest Missouri State Universitry with a B.S. in Elementary Education & Learning Disabilities. She received her Masters in Education & Learning Disabilities from Rivier College. Colleen is a very patient and kind teacher and has been helping students at the Sylvan of Merrimack since April of 2010. She is currently teaching at the Merrimack Middle School where she has taught since 2002. Colleen has 2 grown children. We love Colleen for her warm spirit and devotion to teaching!
Jennifer Zides
Associate Director of Education
Jennifer graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a degree in English and Elementary Education. She worked with a variety of schools in the Connecticut area and was the Director of Education at the Sylvan Learning Center in Southington Connecticut from 2005-2006. Jennifer moved to New Hampshire in 2009 and has worked with us at the Sylvan of Merrimack since January of 2011. Jennifer has a 2 year old son. She enjoys spending time with her little boy, cooking and participating in her Mom's Group activities. We love Jennifer for her wit and love for teaching!
