Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
Jean earned her B.S. in Secondary Math Education from the University of Pittsburgh and her Chemical Engineering degree from Penn State University.
Her philosophy of education is "I believe education occurs best in a safe and nuturing enviroment. Once that is established, students need to be taught in a way that ensures a deep understanding of concepts. Once a strong foundation is provided, the students can extend the concepts to deeper understanding."
Jean has been with Sylvan since 2000.
Meghan earned her B.S. in Secondary Education with a concentration in mathematics from Lock Haven University.
Meghan believes that the life changing experience that a student goes through during school with the help from a teacher is priceless. “The best part about being a teacher is the look on a child’s face when the light bulb comes on and they have the look of ‘Ohh I get it now!’. I am blessed to be able to see that light bulb come on with my students. It is these moments that give goose bumps and I realize that I am truly making a difference in a child’s life.” states Meghan.
Meghan has been with Sylvan Learning Center since June 2008.
Jeff received his degree in Secondary Education, Citizenship and Social Studies from Point Park University. He has started his Sylvan career in October 2011. Jeff's favorite thing about teaching is "inspiring students to reach their full potential." When Jeff is not working at Sylvan, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, ice hockey-especially the Penquins, history and politics.
I graduated from St. Vincent College in May 2006 with a BA in English. I completed student teaching at Norwin Senior High School in December 2006. My certification area is Secondary English (English 7-12)
My philosophy on education is "learning is for everyone." (I've watched that "Hockey is for everyone" commercial way too many times!)
Every student has the capacity to learn. A good teacher is able to find a way to relate the material so the student is interested. It is vitally important to create a rapport with each and every student encountered. Simply greeting a student by name and knowing one interest of his/hers (favorite TV show, favorite food, etc.) can go a long way in creating a positive, professional relationship in the classroom.
John is a graduate of St. Vincent College in 2006. He has been with Sylvan Learning Center since 2010. John currently works as a Paraprofessional at Penn Trafford High School. He looks forward to working with students who wish to take advantage of the opportunities provided at Sylvan.
EJ graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Child and Family studies. EJ has been with Sylvan Learning Center since August 2011. She enjoys building strong relationships with her students while working at Sylvan Learning Center
