Happy In Math ClassToday was the first day I really felt happy in a math class. Thank you, Sylvan. - Danielle, Junior at Bishop Feehan |
It's All Coming TogetherDanielle is much more confident in Algebra II now and that is spilling over to her other subjects. Instead of feeling that she is always behind the eight ball because of her poor math skills, she feels like she can do it and that she is in control. - June, Danielle's mom |

Becky learned more in one summer here at Sylvan than she learned all of last year in school. - Michaela, Becky's mom |
Integers Are EasyHomework tonight was integers. It was easy because I had learned it here at Sylvan. - Allen, 7th grader at NAMS |
Jack Should Do A Sylvan Commercial! My son Jack should do a Sylvan commercial! When Jack came to Sylvan Learning Center he didn’t know all the letters of his alphabet. After working hard over the summer not only is he ready for Kindergarten, but the school moved him up to first grade. - Jess, Jack's mom |
I Earned A StickerI was the only one in class today that knew what expanded form is – I learned it at Sylvan. My teacher gave me a sticker because I knew it before she taught it. - Bella, 4th grader at Thacher |
No More Homework BattlesHomework used to be a nightly battle. Thanks to Sylvan, now he does it independently and doesn’t need my help. - Angela, Manny's mom |
Writing All The TimeThanks to the Sylvan writing program, now when Alice has a writing assignment, she writes two pages instead of two sentences! - Susan, Alice's mom |
Scored Proficient on MCASDebby has always been in the failing category of the MCAS Math section. We brought her to Sylvan because in 10th grade the MCAS determines whether or not Debby graduates. The wonderful teachers at Sylvan worked with Debby for 6 months on remedial math and state test preparation. When we received the letter telling us that she passed we were thrilled. Then we found out that she scored 40 additional points and was just shy of the Advanced category, we are elated! Thanks Sylvan! - Karen, Debby's mom |
National Merit ScholarKaren is a very bright girl who had scored in the Advanced category of the MCAS exam, affording her free tuition at a Massachusetts State University. She was told that if she scored 2100 or above on her SATs, she would also receive free room and board. She attended Sylvan’s state test prep course and when she took her SATs, scored 2220. Not only is she receiving a free education but was named a National Merit Scholar. |
Accepted To Bishop FeehanLennie is an average student in the local public middle school. Cal, Lennie’s dad, came to Sylvan for help making sure that Lennie could pass the Catholic School Entrance Exam. We developed a program to address Lennie’s weak test areas. Lennie took the exam, scored highly and was accepted to the school of his choice. |
Made The Honor RollEmma is a very bright student who receives A’s in every subject but Math. In fact, Math is such a problem area for Emma that she would end up in tears in the classroom and during homework time. Rose, Emma’s mom, brought her to Sylvan because she just couldn’t stand to see her daughter devastated by her “math phobia.” Emma worked very hard in our Math Essentials program and is now on the honor roll. Her teacher says that it is nice to see Emma comfortable in an area that used to cause her great stress. |
Sylvan really made a difference in her life!My daughter was in the 4th grade and was struggling. The teachers were telling us she was about 6 months behind in her reading and vocabulary. They told us the IEP she was on was working, and that the goals her father and I had for her were out of reach. They said she might never catch up to her peers. Just when I thought it couldn't be any worse, I heard my - Margie Morehouse |
