The Internet can be a key element in your child’s development—if you know the right places to go. “It is important that parents monitor what their children are doing and make sure their children are visiting reputable sources,” says Richard E. Bavaria, Ph.D., vice president of education for Sylvan Learning Center. “But it is also important that they have fun while they are learning.” If you are unsure of a website’s credibility, consult your child’s school guidance counselor or the local librarian, Bavaria says. “You want to check out a website as carefully as you check out your child’s friends,” he advises.
