Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Don Woods
Center Director
Don has a long history supporting families in crisis. He earned his master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University and his bachelor's degree in English and Journalism from Southwest Texas State University. Prior to Don's involvement at Sylvan, he served as a psychotherapist for adolescent in-patients and their families at the Woods Psychiatric Institute in Abilene. Additionally, Don has played an executive role as a board member of Woods Clinical Management, Inc.
Lisa Godina
Director of Education
Lisa recieved her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana Tech University. She has been working in the learning center environment for thirteen years. Lisa served as a Director of Education for the Sylvan Corporation traveling throughout the United States to open new centers. She has also worked extensively with our Math Essentials program. Lisa serves as the Progress Manager for students pre-K -5th grade.

Cathy Becknell
Associate Director of Education
Cathy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Speciality in Math. She is also ESL certified. Cathy was a former Sylvan Director of Education for two years in San Angelo, Texas and was an instructor for 2 years prior to that. She is currently teaching in the Eagle Mountain Saginaw School District. Cathy is the progress manager for students in grades 6th-Adult.
