"This place is family oriented," Branch Manager June Zhou says of the 4S Ranch branch of San Diego County Library. Opened to the public on April 26, 2007, the 4S Ranch Library is located in 4S Commons Center and serves as a community hub, focused on their large population of children and teens that flood the branch on a daily basis.
The 4S Ranch branch is 7,214 square feet and has a fluctuating collection size of around 28,000 items. Despite its relatively small size, 4S Ranch is ninth out of thirty-three SDCL branches in terms of how many items customers check out monthly at their library. Each month, 4S Ranch checks out about 33,000 items to the public, with the majority of these items being children's books and media materials, such as DVDs.
Children's programs are also a big hit at 4S Ranch, with weekly storytimes boasting upwards of 70 kids. The Summer Reading Program is always a huge hit, and 4S Ranch staff host duplicates of each youth program in order to allow all of their customers the chance to take part. Luckily for the community, the Friends of the 4S Library offer generous donations in order to make all of these programs possible.
On the adult side of things, the 4S Ranch library hosts a new rotating art display that allows members of the community to share their creativity with the public. The current display is by R.A. Zuckerman and features paintings of community scenes, many taking place at the library. This display also includes an informational guide to each piece of art and is very popular with the community.
The 4S library has nine public Internet stations, free wireless internet connections, a 53 person capacity community room that can be reserved by the public, and a variety of free educational programs. For more information on the 4S Ranch branch of San Diego County Library, please visit the 4S Ranch Library page or call the branch at (858) 673-4697.
In order for your child to be eligible for free tutoring, your child must attend a Title I school that is identified as a school in need of improvement, corrective action or restructuring AND be eligible for Free or Reduced Price Lunch. Please check with your student's school and/or school district to see if your family qualifies for the SES program. Program requirements may vary from district to district.

SDNCC WebsitePoway is known as the "City in the Country," due to its beautiful parks, hiking trails, and natural surroundings. The Poway Branch Library is at the center of this city, and serves a broad and diverse customer base. The library offers numerous and varied programs for children, teens, and adults. Between bilingual storytimes, Spanish computer classes, Farsi programs, and Indian dance performances, the Poway Library reaches out to all members of the Poway community. The library collection reflects the diverse community, with materials available in Spanish, Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, and many other languages.
The Poway library circulated 638,494 items last year, making it the fifth busiest library in the San Diego County Library system. The most popular materials are children's books, with DVDs following close behind being checked out by the stack on the library's new radio frequency check-out machines. With a Teen Specialist on staff, the Poway Library has a flourishing Service Learner program that invites teens to earn volunteer and school credit by donating their time at the library. Over 400 teens have been involved in the program, with dozens more signing up each month.
The Friends of the Poway Library donate the latest and greatest titles in print and on DVD, while also running a busy used-book store and supporting library programs by funding performances, refreshments at events, Summer Reading Club prizes, and much more. The Poway library is also a Reference Resource Center, with the librarians answering some of the county's toughest reference questions. Librarian Fred Rosen has worked at the Poway library for two years and is "always impressed by our dedicated, super-hardworking staff who help our customers everyday use library resources to enhance their lives."
