Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

Cary Swensen
Executive Director
Cary Swensen has a BA in Education from Western Washington University and a MA in History from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has worked for Sylvan Learning for 17 years before opening up her own Sylvan. She likes reading, music, and spending time with her family!
Jaime Rubio
Center Director
Jaime is a Salinas native dedicated to helping his community. In his free time he enjoys coaching youth soccer and volunteering in High school athletics. At Sylvan Learning he enjoys working with parents to assure that Sylvan provides the help their children need. Come in today and say hello!
Michelle Goldstone
Director of Education
Michelle Goldstone graduated from Cal Poly State University with a BA in Liberal Studies. She has held various teaching positions since 2003 and loves being an educator! Michelle enjoys spending time with her family during her off time and currently teaches Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Math Essentials, Homework Support, Algebra, Academic Writing, and Study Skills. Michelle worked at Sylvan Learning Centers in Ventura and Oxnard before joining the Sylvan Salinas team this year!
Sarah Smith
Teacher
Sarah E. Wass Smith graduate from Oregon State University with a BA in History. She has taught most of her working career. She has traveled all over the world and lived in New Zealand for 5 years! Her hobbies include flower arranging, reading, and volunteering at the famous volunteer-run Steinbeck House. She has been with Sylvan for 8 years teaching Academic Reading, Basic Math, and Academic Writing.
Mary Jo Cripe
Teacher
Mary Jo Cripe graduated from Wheaton College with a BA in Christian Education. She had been an elementary school teacher for 21 years and a college instructor for 4 years. Mary Jo’s hobbies include reading, music, and baking! She was a retired elementary teacher when she first came to Sylvan in 2001- she missed the kids so much she had to get back into teaching! Mary Jo has now been with us for 8 years and teaches Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Academic Writing, and Basic Math.
Jennifer Belli
Teacher
Jennifer Belli graduated from CSU, Fresno with a BA in Liberal Studies and a Multiple subject teaching credential. She taught as a substitute teacher and a Kindergarten/First grade teacher before moving to the east coast to travel and explore for a year! She has now been teaching at San Benancio Middle School for 3 years and this is her first year with Sylvan teaching Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Upper Math, and Homework Support.
Joe Petsche
Teacher
Joe graduated from San Francisco State University with a BS in Geology. He then went on to get a MS in Geology from San Jose State University. Joe has taught at San Jose State University for 3 years. He teaches Math Essentials, Sylvan Advanced Math, Homework Support, and SAT.
Juan Camacho Jr.
Teacher
Juan graduated from San Jose State University with a BS in Civil Engineering. He is currently working for the County of Monterey Public Works and Transportation Planning. In Juan’s free time he likes to weight train, play football, and baseball. He teaches Math Essentials, Sylvan Advanced Math, and Homework Support.
Domineque Sivils
Administrative Assitant
Domineque Sivils will be attending Monterey Peninsula College in the fall of 2011. Her goal is to obtain a degree in Kinesiology. Domineque enjoys learning and reading about philosophy during her free time. She is an assessment administrator, Ace It! tutoring program assistant, and an office assistant at Salinas Sylvan Learning.
Susana Sanchez
Center assistant/ Test proctor
Susana Sanchez graduated from North Salinas High School in 2009. She attended Hartnell College and is currently attending San Jose State University. She is currently working on receiving her Bachelors Degree Liberal Studies. She enjoys playing soccer, field hockey and traveling.
