Herika Hernandez

Director of Education

Herika has been with Sylvan for over three years. She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from San Jose State University. While attending San Jose State, Herika started Sylvan as an Administrative Assistant and found her love for making a difference in students’ lives. She then pursued her career within Sylvan as the Director of Education in San Ramon. During her time at Sylvan, she has partnered with Michael to achieve academic confidence within their students to help them obtain their academic and personal goals.

Joy Dawson

Administrative Assistant

Joy has been the Administrative Assistant for Sylvan Learning of San Ramon since 2006. She provides office support for Michael and Herika and the staff so that they may provide our families and students with excellent customer service and superb instruction. Joy enjoys interacting with the students and their families.

Joy was born in Chicago and raised in Santa Clara, CA. She graduated from Adrian C. Wilcox High School and majored in business and Early Childhood Development at Diablo Valley College. She received her teacher certificate and taught preschool for 7 years. She loves art, singing and the great outdoors. Joy is married and has a grown son and daughter. She also has 2 pugs named Gomer and Bosco.

Joy finds her job very rewarding and fun.

Parveen Bangar

Parveen has taught at Sylvan since February 2008 and has thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She hails from Livermore but was raised in Dublin and is an alumnus of Dublin High School, class of 2003. Parveen holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of the Pacific. Outside of Sylvan, Parveen enjoys soccer, shopping, listening to music, reading, watching movies and spending time with her family.

Elizabeth Ennis

Elizabeth grew up in Pleasanton and is a graduate of Amador Valley High School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science with a minor in French. Elizabeth earned her teaching credential from Saint Mary's College. She currently teaches social studes for sophomores, juniors and seniors at Mount Diablo High School in Concord. In her free time Elizabeth enjoys playing computer games, hanging out with her cat, bike riding and photography. She is entering her 6th year of class room teaching and has been with us at Sylvan since April 2009.

Maurice Thomas

Maurice was raised in Columbus, OH and now lives in Danville. He is an outstanding mathematics instructor and enjoys working with our students. Maurice has two sons, one in college and the other just entering high school. Smooth Jazz is his music of choice and his favorite hobby is coaching basketball.
