Originally from Lockport, New York, Lydia recently moved to Maine in January of 2010. Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in English as well as Vocal Performance from SUNY Geneseo. She also holds initial New York State certification in secondary English Language Arts grades 5-12 as well as a provisional teaching certificate in Maine for English Language Arts grades 7-12. In addition, she has a Master of Science in Education degree from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York. She has had experience working in several different educational settings with students of all ages and abilities. She is thrilled to be a part of the Sylvan team!
Becky came to Sylvan in October of 2011 as a teacher and soon took on additional roles within the center prior to becoming the Director of Education the end of 2012. Being a native of the Portland area, Becky is thrilled to be educating our students and helping develop programs to suit their individual needs. Becky received a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Elementary Education from Endicott College and later went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from UMass Boston. She holds her Initial Teaching Certificate Grades 1-6 in Massachusetts along with her Provisional Teaching Certificate Grades K-8 in Maine. Having worked with students of all ages, Becky is well suited at Sylvan, supporting all of our programs.
Amy has been with Sylvan Learning Center in several capacities over the last 15 years. Currently, she talks to new customers to let them know what Sylvan can do to help. She also manages our Facebook page and our center websites. She holds a BS in Elementary Education from St. Joseph's College in Standish, ME and is certified to teach in the State of Maine. Along with all her Sylvan accomplishments she is the mother of two young boys who keep her very busy.

FAVORITE PART OF TEACHING AT SYLVAN: As a recently certified teacher, Sylvan is hugely responsible for my growth as an educator. I love being part of a program that individualizes curricula based off of the needs of each student. I really enjoy the opportunity to meet so many kids that have such unique personalities and learning styles. Teaching isn't just a job for me, it's my passion and here I can embrace my love of education in a setting that provides growth for both teachers and students.
EDUCATION: Secondary Education English from the University of Maine at Farmington with a minor in Psychology

SUBJECTS TAUGHT: At Sylvan, I teach Academic Reading, Math, Study Skills, and Academic Writing. Outside of Sylvan, I am a substitute teacher at Thornton Academy, where I teach a variety of subjects at the high school level.
HOBBIES: reading, walking, watching movies, and going to amusement parks
FAVORITE PART OF TEACHING AT SYLVAN: My favorite part about teaching at Sylvan is interacting with the students. They are all so different and fun to work with.

FAVORITE PART OF TEACHING AT SYLVAN: Really enjoys coming to teach at the Learning Center because the kids are always ready to learn and come with smiles on their faces; the other teachers are great to work with, too!

HOBBIES: I love to read and walk on the beach. The ocean is one of my favorite sounds to hear. I also play brain puzzle games for fun!
FAVORITE PART OF TEACHING AT SYLVAN: I love when a student understands something for the very first time. The "lightbulb" moments are exciting to watch. I also love seeing confidence in math improve. It makes my day when I see a student tackle a problem confidently that previously was extremely difficult and frustrating to them!
