John Mark Burton

Instructor/Diagnostician

John Mark Burton comes from an academic family that has produced numerous teachers for several generations. Mr. Burton started college as a Music Major before receiving an AB in English Literature from Georgia State University. Additionally, he received an MAT in the teaching of Secondary English from Agnes Scott College, where he also received State of Georgia certification in Secondary English. Prior to coming to Sylvan Learning Centers, Mr. Burton had extensive teaching (College level and Secondary level) and private tutoring experience in English composition, grammar, and literature. He bases his teaching philosophy on his experiences as a student: expending whatever energy is necessary to obtain excellent evaluations. His favorite part of teaching he describes as the chance to be a perpetual student, ever exulting in moments of epistemological revelation.
