Sylvan Learning Centers are a fun place to be. Most of our former and current students will tell you this "straight up".
This is partly because everyone at Sylvan shares a love of teaching, a commitment to children and a desire to help them succeed - in school and beyond. Seeing your child through his tutoring programs is as rewarding to us as it is to you and your family. This makes personal praise and verbal reinforcement from our tutors to your student a natural part of the process.

Sylvan's more formal "token" program is a vital part of our tutoring process. Your child's tutor will reward him with "tokens" to recognize his hard work, correct answers and good efforts. For example, students may receive tokens for reading aloud, solving a tough math question or applying a composition technique correctly.
Eventually, students save these tokens for redemption at the center's "Sylvan Store" for a variety of fun prizes - from small toys and games to skateboards and CDs. Sylvan students receive recognition for their effort in our tutoring programs while learning about real-life skills like saving and managing "assets" in a checkbook-style account.
By offering tangible rewards for achievement, including personalized certificates for achieving certain milestones, Sylvan is taking a proactive approach to motivating kids and keeping them engaged in the tutoring programs. After time, students begin to see that learning is its own reward Ð an idea from which they'll benefit well beyond school.
