Paul Johnson
Center Director
Paul has two children, Helen and Jack. Sylvan has enabled Paul to contribute to the community while orienting his professional life around his family and the education of Seattle-area children. Paul is passionate about education and helping children reach their potential.
Bethany Black
Teacher
Bethany has been teaching here for almost 3 years. Of all of our teachers, she has been working at Sylvan the longest. She likes working with a wide mix of ages and skill levels and enjoys watching the students progress. Bethany is working toward a Master of Library and Information Science degree. When she is not at Sylvan or studying, Bethany enjoys gardening and camping. She also volunteers at the Seattle Humane Society.
Kirsten Erickson
Teacher
: Kirsten has been teaching at Sylvan for 1½ years. She works with mostly younger kids, helping them build their math and reading skills. In addition to teaching at Sylvan she is also a kindergarten teacher at a local school. When Kirsten is not teaching she enjoys relaxing with her friends and family!
Shannon Murphy
Teacher
Shannon has worked as a teacher at Sylvan for over 2 years. Like most of the teachers at Sylvan, Shannon teaches numerous subjects to kids of all ages. In addition to Sylvan, Shannon also teaches third grade at a school in the neighborhood. In her free time, she likes to have friends over and entertain.
Lesley McKeever
Teacher
Lesley has been a teacher at Sylvan for a year. Her favorite aspect of working at Sylvan is the time that she gets to spend with her students. She really enjoys helping them meet their academic goals. In her free time, Lesley loves to read! She also writes computer programs and video games.
Sam Myung
Teacher
Sam has been a teacher at Sylvan for just under a year. His specialty is math, and he enjoys works with kids of all ages and skill levels. His favorite is working with the advanced math students. Sam enjoys listening to music and watching movies in his spare time.
Kristi Riggin
Teacher
Kristi has been working at Sylvan for almost two years. She enjoys working with the older kids on their advanced math, as well as helping the younger kids with their math and reading skills. Kristi enjoys playing with her cats and going to the zoo, when she can.
Joanna Wall
Teacher
Joanna has been a teacher at Sylvan for over a year. She likes working at Sylvan because she gets to meet new kids all the time and work with a variety of students. When Joanna is not at Sylvan she likes to read and spend time outside (when the weather is nice).
Doug Wise
Teacher
Doug has been a teacher at Sylvan for 2½ years. He really enjoys working with geometry, trigonometry, and advanced math and physics students. In his spare time, he likes to travel, snorkel in Hawaii and sail on Puget Sound.
