Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

David Lyman
Director
Dave has been a Director with Sylvan since 2000, before that he taught at Needham High School and Dean College. His favorite program is SAT prep because students can raise their scores by 200 points in one month. Thats sometimes the difference between going to Boston College or Harvard.
Dave is a Providence College alum and has a Masters Degree in Education. Massachusetts certified teacher since 1995.
Lynnell Grube
Director
Lynnell has been with Sylvan for 11 years! She started as a teacher in Brookline, MA, and became a director in 2000. She loves making a difference in her students’ lives. She earned her Bachelor's Degree at UCONN (Go Huskies!!!) and her Master's in Education from Boston University. Lynnell has been a certified teacher since 1999.
Lynnell has two little ones - Evan is 6 and Lola is 4. Her favorite activity, outside Sylvan, is taking them to the playground. Lynnell's other love is the NY Yankees!
Rebecca Betteker
Instructor / Evening Director
Rebecca has received her Master's in Education from UCONN. She is currently working in South Windsor Public Schools. Rebecca enjoys working with students of all ages. In her free time, she enjoys kayaking and reading.
Stephanie Alleano
Admin
Stephanie is a graduate of South Windsor High School! She has been working with Sylvan for over a year. Stephanie loves helping the center run smoothly! She is currently pursuing her college degree!
Denise Russell
Instructor
Denise is a certified teacher and has been in education for twenty-five years. Of all the aspects of education she has been involved in, she enjoys tutoring the most. That's why she became a Sylvan teacher! Her favorite subject has and continues to be math and her favorite thing to do is cook.
Laurie Giacomazzi
Instructor
Laurie comes to us from South Windsor Public Schools where she is a special education teacher at the high school. She is certified to teach Special Education and Social Studies. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her sons, Lance and Luke.
Ellen Ridel
Instructor
Ellen also comes to us from the Storrs Sylvan Learning where she taught for two years. Her favorite Sylvan subject is Beginning Reading! When not teaching at Sylvan, Ellen enjoys gardening, reading and traveling.
Kristine Brewer
Instructor
Kristine works in Manchester Public Schools. She hold a dual certification in Special Education and Social Studies. Kristine has her Master's Degree in Special Education. She is in the process of pursing further certifications. Kristine loves teaching and seeing all the successes her students acheive! Kristine loves football and has three dogs - Murry, Brandy and Rue.
JuliaBeth Tomaselli - Nettleton
Instructor
JuliaBeth holds teaching certifications in both Elementary K-6, as well as Math grades 7-12. She has always loved math, and enjoys working with younger students as well! She loves helping all her students work up to their potential! JuliaBeth has her Master's Degree in Education from UCONN.
Gloria Krol
Instructor
Gloria is a CT certfied teacher and has over 10 years experience in elementary education. She has also tutored many middle and high school students in her teaching career. Her favorite subject was math in school, and she loves gardening, crafts and reading.
Stephanie Fechtor
Instructor
Stephanie worked for over eight years in the Sylvan in West Hartford, CT. She is happy to continue working with Sylvan in Vernon! Stephanie enjoys working with students of all ages in reading and math.
Ashley Ruegg
Instructor/SAT Prep Tutor
Ashley is a recent graduate from UCONN with her degree in Math Education! She has always loved math and loves working with students of all ages. She has worked in the UCONN Math Tutoring Center, as well as, taught at many local schools! Ashley is currently completing her Master's in Math Education.
Elizabeth Barr
Instructor/SAT Prep Tutor
Elizabeth has her Master's Degree from UCONN in Education. She is a Chemistry teacher at Rockville High School. She tutors math, SAT Prep, study skills and more at Sylvan.
Carla Ryall
Instructor/SAT Prep Tutor
Carla has her Master's Degree from UCONN in Education. She is a Math teacher at E.O. Smith High School in Mansfield. Carla tutors math, study skills, SAT Prep, as well as other topics here at Sylvan.
Phil Rohrer
Instructor/SAT Prep Tutor
Phil joins us from the Sylvan in West Hartford where he worked since 2009! He is pursuing his Doctorate at UCONN and loves teaching Sylvan students in his spare time!
Jaclyn Lackner
Instructor
Jaclyn is a certified elementary school teacher who comes to us from the Vernon Public Schools. She loves working with students!
Jessica Addie
Instructor
Jessica joins us from Windsor Public Schools where she is a certified elementary school teacher. Jess worked at the Sylvan in West Hartford when she taught in Hartford Public Schools and is glad to be back with Sylvan in Vernon!
Kate Lynn Walsh
Puller
Kate Lynn is a senior at Tolland High! She helps prepare the instructors for the tutoring.
