Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

Mary Gruber

Program Manager

B.S. in Elementary Education from University of Cincinnati in 1991

Mary taught in a private school in the Cincinnati area from 1991-1995. She joined Sylvan Learning Center in Blue Ash as a part-time instructor in June 1995. Mary was promoted to Director of Education in April 1996. She continued to work in this capacity and later as Assistant Director of Education while raising her three children. Mary returned to full-time Director of Education in the summer of 2008.

Mary enjoys helping each student grow in confidence and academic skills. Her motivation and commitment to each learner is transferred to her teaching staff. Her experience as an educator and as a mother enables her to address the needs of many Sylvan families. She is excited to meet the families of West Chester and looks forward to working with you and your child.

Amanda Brown

Instructor

Amanda is a graduate of Lakota East High School and obtained her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Miami University. Amanda joined the Sylvan family in September 2008 and loves working with students here. Her favorite programs to teach are reading and math because you can use fun books and manipulatives to learn these subjects. In addition to her work at Sylvan, Amanda also works as a substitute teacher in several local school districts and helps in the accounting department at Berean Christian stores.

Amanda has 2 cats named Coconut and Sweetie. Her hobbies include scrapbooking and reading.

Brandon Bright

Instructor

Brandon is a graduate of Lakota East High School and obtained his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Ohio University. Brandon joined the Sylvan family in September 2010 and loves working with students here. His favorite program to teach is math because he wants to help children understand the world around them. In addition to his work at Sylvan, Brandon enjoys watching movies, reading and listening to music!

Chris Melfi

Instructor

Chris is a graduate of Kings High School and obtained his B.A. in History from NKU. Chris joined the Sylvan family in November 2010 and loves working with students here. His favorite programs to teach are reading and writing because its an essential tool for academic sucess! In addition to his work at Sylvan, Chris is a musician /singer /song writer. He also enjoys playing and coaching soccer in his free time!

Jill Mann

Instructor

Jill has a B.A. Education and M.Ed. in Reading – Olivet Nazarene University. Jill joined the Sylvan family in October 2005 and loves educating students here. Her favorite program to teach is Academic Reading because reading is her first love. Before coming to Sylvan, Jill was a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher for 34 years. She has also worked as a waitress, a nurse’s aide, and a factory assembly line worker. Jill enjoys spending time with her husband, her children, and her 6 grandchildren. Jill shares her home with 2 dogs – a chocolate lab named Simon and a yellow lab named Macie.

Judy Everly

Instructor

Judy has received a B.S. in Education from Ohio State University in 1971. She joined the Sylvan family in 1987. In addition to teaching part-time for Sylvan, Judy also teaches full-time at a local parochial school.

Judy's hobbies include listening to music, reading, gardening and decorating.

Latricia Capo

Instructor

Latricia has earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Carson-Newman College.  She started her Sylvan career in October, 2011.

When Latricia is not a Sylvan she enjoys crafts and reading.  Her favorite thing about teaching is, "seeing the student's eyes light up when they understand or master a skill."

Leslie Spegal

Instructor

Leslie has received a B.S in Early Childhood Education from University of Toledo in 2005. Leslie joined the Sylvan family in 2006 as tutor in Middletown's Beginning Reader Program. Leslie loves watching students improve and have fun with learning!

Stacey Mock

Instructor

Stacey is a graduate of Lakota West High School and obtained her B.S. in Gifted Intervention/ ECE from Miami University. Jessica joined the Sylvan family in November 2010 and loves working with students here. Her favorite programs to teach is Reading because she loves helping kids! In addition to her work at Sylvan,Stacey enjoys being outside and she even worked as a horse wrangler in the wild wild west!

Ted Oliver

Instructor

Ted is a Lakota East High School graduate. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati - 2009. Ted is new to Sylvan in September 2009 – he says Math is his favorite thing to teach because “it’s awesome like that!”
Prior to coming to Sylvan, Ted’s most interesting job was working at Skyline Chili. When he’s not working, Ted enjoys spending time with his dog, Shadow.

Heather McHone

Instructor

Heather graduated from Bellarmine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Mathematics.  She began her Sylvan career in November, 2011.

When Heather is not at Sylvan she enjoys cooking, volunteering and reading.  Her favorite thing about teaching is, "When students experience the 'Aha!' moment."
